Freediving is about inward power, discipline and control. Taking the PADI Basic Freediver course is a good introduction to the world of Freediving. To enrol in a PADI Basic Freediver course you must be at least 12 years old. You need adequate swimming skills and need to be in good physical health. No prior experience with snorkelling, skin diving or freediving is required.
With the PADI Basic Freediver Certification students will:
Be able to safely attend freediving club sessions both in the confined water.
With a buddy, practise freediving techniques in confined water (many pools require proof of certification for breath hold training)
be eligible to attend a PADI Freediver Course and progress your freediving skills.

How does it work?
After enrolling, PADI's eLearning system presents you with interactive presentations that include videos, audio, graphics and reading. Short quizzes let you gauge your progress, and review and correct anything you might happen to miss. This lets you move through the programme efficiently and at your own pace..
What do I need for the online portion of the course?
All you will need is a stable internet connection and an email address..
What happens if I do not get Medical and cannot complete the training?
The eLearning portion of the course is non‐refundable. This is why we advise that you do not register your pass until you have check with us whether you need to see your doctor.
Freediving Pool Session
Before we jump into the pool we have a group session practising important breathing, equalisation and relaxation techniques.
We then spend the day practising in our heated dive pool. You will practise and complete all the skills you will use in the ocean under the guidance of one of our experienced instructors. Learning is fun and you have heaps of time to perfect your skills.
In the pool, you learn breathing techniques, then practise breath holds while floating (static apnea) and while swimming (dynamic apnea). You also practise basic rescue techniques and learn your role as a buddy.

Swimming Your PADI Freediver Instructor will have you demonstrate basic water skills to be sure you’re comfortable in the water. This is a 200-metre/yard swim or 300-metre/yard swim using a mask, fins and snorkel without stopping. There is no time limit for this, and you may use any swimming strokes you want. Any individual who can meet the performance requirements of the course qualifies for certification. There are many adaptive techniques that allow individuals with physical challenges to meet these requirements.
Age The minimum age is 15 years old for the PADI Freediver course and 12 years old for the PADI Basic Freediver certification. PADI Basic Freediver is a subset programme of the PADI Freediver course that only includes knowledge development and a confined water session.
Medical History All student divers complete a medical history form that asks about medical conditions that could be a problem while freediving. If none of these apply, sign the form and you’re ready to start. If any of these apply to you, your doctor must, as a safety precaution, assess the condition as it relates to freediving and sign a medical form that confirms you’re fit to dive. In some areas, local laws require all students to consult with a physician before entering the course.
