Day1 - Monday 16th March 2020
For those who are coming from or out of Auckland you will need to be at AKL airport no later than 2 pm . Then it’s time to collect the rental van at Auckland airport, load the trailer and drive for 4 hours to Whangururu, to stay at Northland Dive.
Day 2 - Tuesday 17th March
Today we dive the HMSNZ Canterbury. This is a ‘new’ wreck dive only 10 years old and sits upright and fully in tack. While the marine life is slowly growing on the wreck, some species have taken up permanent residency within it. You will have to have a look around to find them. Our second dive is on a reef close by. We are welcomed back to the accommodation which includes a lovely home cooked hearty meal, with time to put our feet up and enjoy the local hospitality.
Day 3 -Wednesday 18th March
Today we dive the HMSNZ Canterbury again and another reef in the area.
Day 4 - Thursday 19th March
Northland Dive takes us up to dive the Rainbow Warrior in the morning. The jewel anemones on the hull of the Warrior are something to remember so bring your underwater camera to capture the beauty. The whole area is visually stunning with the Cavalli Islands to the fore so make sure you are armed for surface photos as well. Our last dive in this area is on the return journey from the Cavalli Islands.
Day 5 - Friday 20th March
After our trip on the liveaboard from Northland Dive in the morning we prepare for our first day of diving at Poor Knights. The famous Jacques Cousteau rated the Knights as one of the 10 best dive sites in the world. There is over 125 different species of fish that exist amongst soft and hard corals, sponges and gorgonian fans in the convergence of tropical and temperate ocean currents. The Knights is a designated Marine Reserve and is soon to be awarded World Heritage status. An opportunity to dive at night is on the cards again tonight also.
Day 6 - Saturday 21st March
The Knights have so many dive sites and Shane is determined for us to dive as many different spots as possible while on board. Perhaps Mao Mao Arch, Nursery Cove or the Sand Garden today.
Day 7 - Sunday 22nd March
More dives at the endless amazing spots of the Poor Knights then back to Northland Dive’s home base to a home cooked meal and a celebration of the wonderful week of diving we have had.
Day 8 - Monday 23rd March
Travel back to Auckland Airport to catch our flight home. This is Otago Anniversary Day so you can get home and pop your feet up.
